François Guizot et le protestantisme français sous le Second Empire

François Guizot was a fervent Protestant. On the intellectual scene, he served as an apologist for the Protestant faith. Three examples of his apologistic work include his Calvin biography (1822), his Discours sur l’histoire de la révolution d’Angleterre (1850), and the stance he advised his fellow Protestants to adopt towards the Roman Catholic Church. He was also active in the life of the Reformed church. He supported the evangelical current as best he could, intervening in particular to secure the official convocation of a general synod, which was held in 1872 and in which he took an active part.
